In 2019 Breanna was working a 9-5 that she never truly got to clock out of. One day, she had her weekly check-in with her supervisor where he asked a simple, yet complex question, 'What do you do in your free time?' Breanna laughed at this question. 'What free time? I spend every free moment I have working on more work.' So her supervisor asked what she enjoyed, to which she quickly responded, 'Reading'.
In that moment, God moved. Her supervisor asked his follow up question, 'Have you ever thought about writing?' Breanna was speechless. She never told anyone. When she was just six years old, in her parents kitchen, Breanna set up a tv tray and sat writing her own childrens series. She dreamed one day of becoming a published author but also knew that 'only famous authors wrote books. Not some girl from the country in nowhere, Missouri.' Six year old Breanna quietly pushed that dream aside and aspired for other, more realistic, career paths. Until that day in 2019, sitting in a conference room across from her supervisor. 'I challenge you to write. Anything. Create a blog, a newsletter. Just write.'
And so she did. Breanna went home and learned all she could about starting a blog. Shortly after, she created Southern Porch Talk where she wrote blog posts about real life. Just two people, sitting on their front porch, sipping sweet tea and chatting.
Behind the scenes, she began to write two devotionals that she published in 2021. She also caught herself doodling a poem while sitting in a work meeting. That one poem led to an anthology published in March 2021. It was this book of poems that was Breanna's breaking point. You see, individually, those poems are just short, relatable poems. But when read in order, they tell a story. They tell the story of Breanna. Her childhood, dreams, heartbreak, darkness of rock bottom, and finally, finding hope in Jesus.
From there, Breanna felt free. Free to bring forth her childhood dream of becoming a published author again. In March 2022, Breanna published her debut romantic thriller novel, The Colorado Killer.
Reading. Books. It had been her escape from reality for years and now is the gateway to her dreams.
